In the Srem region of rural Serbia, years of economic hardship under an irresponsible regime have taken an ecological and societal toll.

The cypress (“čempres” in Serbo-Croatian) is a fast-growing, resilient tree that brings ecological and aesthetic benefits wherever it is planted. In a similar vein, Čempres was founded in August 2024 to help bring about positive change in local communities and the natural environment. We are a small NGO run by volunteers, and we are just getting started.

Although we are beginning with small steps, we have big dreams.
We can’t wait to see what we can accomplish together.
